Stonehenge, a huge prehistoric monument, was built 5000 years ago in England.
Stonehenge.
Over
the years there have been many thoughts about Stonehenge.
Was Stonehenge a
temple,a healing ground or a graveyard?
People were buried there, and the
stones are aligned in astronomically important ways.
Yes,
for many years its builders and its purpose has remained a mystery until now.
Unobserved by many historians time after time was the image of the Cat God for
which Stonehenge was constructed.
Once it's pointed out, any one can easily
discern the image of the cat carved into one of the aging stone slabs.
The
Stonehenge monument is located in Wiltshire, England.
Some
of the stones used in the first circle are believed to have been brought from
Wales, the Prescelly Mountains, located about 240 miles away.
It's possible
that during the last ice age, glaciers carried these bluestones closer to the
area, but they would still have to travel 140 mikes.
The bluestones weigh up
to 4 tons each and about 80 stones were used, in all.
Stonehenge
is not the only ancient site in this area.
The
Avebury complex, only 25 miles north of Stonehenge, is mentioned to be the most
impressive of all remaining prehistoric earthworks in Europe.
The Avebury henge
monument contains three stone circles, around the village of Avebury in Wiltshire.
Stonehenge
was thought to be dedicated to the worship of the sun and moon.
Avebury may
have been dedicated to more human themes.
